Season two of Netflix's 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' is full of treachery, despair—and over-the-top fashion looks. Based off of Lemony Snicket's novels of the same name, the only way to bring the descriptive tales to life on-screen is through impeccable wardrobe choices.

Though the series is not set in a specific period, most of the looks are inspired by Victorian, 19th-century fashions. The show's costume designer, Cynthia Summers, added detail and story to every single piece or prop shown.

One standout costume was that of Carmelita Spats, the Prufrock Preparatory School mean girl. Summers explains how her dress needed to have a specific tone to help convey her spoiled rotten behavior.

“It was a very specific pink that we chose [for Spats],” Summers told Mic. “In fact, we made the pink. We dye and create a lot of our own fabrics, and we needed something that would work tonally once we put our lighting on it to get it back to the color of pink that we wanted.”

Another fashion highlight of the season was seen in the overly fabulous and always "in" apparel of Esmé Squalor. From pinstripes to berets, and other upscale, ever-changing fashions, Summers explains how the character's personality is seen through her clothes.

“She has the most costume changes per episode, and I think that speaks to her frenetic, crazy idea of what she wants or needs out [of] life because she doesn’t really know,” Summers said.
