One of the stupidest memes ever created hit the internet last year. Youngsters would dare each other to eat Tide Pods, a detergent product that some argue resembles sweets. The craze took off in the worst way possible, with actual Tide Pod recipes surfacing. At one point, US lawmakers tried to push for legislation to stop kids eating washing detergent. Now, a journalist has made a breakthrough in the Tide Pod saga.
Matt Novak spotted a familiar-looking clip from ‘The Day of the Triffids’, a BBC miniseries from 1981. The sci-fi show was based on John Wyndham’s 1951 novel of the same name. The story follows the last days of humanity, with meteor showers and murderous plants taking over society.
In Novak’s clip, we see a woman holding a packet of Tide. With supermarket shelves cleared of food, the woman tries to crack open the box and snack away. Notably, the series was made before Tide even made Pods. You can watch the clairvoyant clip over on YouTube.
