Tom Ellis has been pretty busy lately. The actor has led a viral campaign to save ‘Lucifer’, a sci-fi show in which he is the lead star. It all started when Ellis announced that the show was cancelled on Twitter:

It has been the most amazing experience over the past 3 years playing Lucifer and falling in love with you, the fans. It fills me with great sadness to confirm the rumours that some of you have been asking. Fox has indeed cancelled #lucifer I’m so sorry guys. #gutted

However, it wasn’t all over for Ellis, when he realised that ‘Lucifer’ fans just weren’t having it. #SaveLucifer starting trending, with a whopping 36,000 tweets sent out with the hashtag. Over the past few days, Ellis has been rallying support online.

Actor William Shatner offered his support. “Leave Twitter for a couple hours and everything goes… #SaveLucifer”, he wrote, adding “what cages do we need to rattle”. Tom even took time out to congratulate ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, a comedy that was recently renewed thanks to fan support. “It seems that fans voices really do have some power!!!! All I can say is let’s keep going”, Ellis wrote. After a few days #SaveLucifer had been tweeted one million times. The campaign seems to be working, but the producers are still tight-lipped. “Whatever happens… please make sure to watch the season 3 finale”, Ellis reminded his fans on Twitter.
