Fans of cult Channel 4 comedy 'Father Ted' were given a treat over the weekend. Graham Linehan, one of the creators of the hilarious series, confirmed that 'Pope Ted', a 'Father Ted' musical, was almost written.
Back in 2015, he reportedly told Radio Times that he would be interested in reviving Father Ted, but co-creator Arthur Mathews apparently wasn't keen and nothing had transpired since. Now it looks like the two have been busy. Fans were thrilled, tweeting back at the writer with excited responses and innumerable 'Father Ted' gifs.‘Pope Ted—The Father Ted Musical’ written by Arthur Mathews and myself, music by Neil Hannon, is almost written. I just thought you’d like to know. THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

Dermot Morgan, the actor who played Father Ted Crilly himself, passed away in 1998 after leading the sitcom for three years. With the absence of such a key part of the show, perhaps it is best to treasure the TV programme in its original form and enjoy a fresh perspective in the theatre.
