The BBC has come under fire for an optimistic new video which shows England winning the World Cup. Fans have criticised the two and a half minute clip, which stitches together mock news reports and celebrity interviews. The vid was posted on BBC Sport Twitter on June 17, the night before England took on Tunisia in their first World Cup game. Clips show celebs like Gary Lineker and Danny Dyer react to the news. One particular clip shows the Queen announcing a new bank holiday, and dabbing on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Fans were quick to respond on social media. “A horrible video, and tempting fate when we've nothing to back it up as yet”, said Dan Phillipson. Michael Sanders concurred, tweeting “I refuse to watch this for the fear of tempting fate”. Jules Cater said “bloody jinx!!!” That’s it now, it’s all over”.

However, some were feeling more hopeful, voicing their support for the England squad. Lanre Poxie tweeted “Hopefully this dream comes through”. One account, F’ball Consultancy, tweeted “With the lack of quality in the world Cup this year in comparison to years gone by. England have a better chance to win the world Cup more than ever before”.

England played their first World Cup game against Tunisia on June 18, winning 2-1. England captain Harry Kane scored in the 11th and 90th minute. The Three Lions will play Panama on Sunday, June 24.
